Science

Earthquakes
We have been studying earthquakes and volcanoes in science. Earthquakes are made when two plates meet and touch. By the pacific plate there are so many volcanoes and earthquakes it is called the ring of fire.

The earthquake in Alaska, 1964 was bad. It had more energy than the San Francisco earthquake. It split a school into two. They were lucky they were out of school that day or there would have been a lot of kids that died. More than 100 people died. It was so violent, the top of a tree came off. Some aftershocks were as far as California.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever

I just finished reading a new book called Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever. In the book was a kid named Greg who has to spend his summer with his family. First Greg got scared by the song: he sees you when you’re sleeping he knows when you’re awake. Greg wears sweat pants, so Santa can’t see him in his underwear. Greg’s school had a fundraiser and he gave all of his canned food to the food for the hungry. So now they are stuck in their house with a little bit of food.

I would recommend this book to my sister Hannah because she has read the other Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. She really wants to read this one. I love how the author put the picture on the cover to show what’s going to happen in the story. I LOVE TO READ!

Social Studies

We had an archeologist come in and to teach us about prehistoric people.  The Mound Builders like the Adena and Hopewell were some of the Mound Builders. He found some artifacts and showed us them.

We’ve been studying historic Indians. These are the tribes like Wyandot, Miami, Mingo, Ottawa, Shawnee, and the Delaware.  The Wyandot were the first tribe and also called the grand fathers. The Delaware was the last tribe to arrive in Ohio. The Miami tribe was the second tribe and covered in tattoos. The Mingo the third tribe was a collection of tribes, Ottawa the fourth lived in teepees and the Shawnee tribe loved silver.  The Delaware tribe was tired of fighting.

Nighty-Nightmare

I’m reading Nighty Nightmare. So far the Monroes went off camping in the woods. They saw smoke filling the air so they went over to see what is was. There were people there and they went to see who it was. At the campsite there were two men Bud and Spud. Also there was a dog named Dawg. Dawg took Howie, Harold, and Chester out someplace in woods. Dawg took them to a very old house.

Chester the cat loves to read. He is very smart and can be sort of feisty. Harold is a dog. Harold is old and can have some fun. Howie is a dachshund puppy. He is full of energy. He is always getting in trouble.

Miss Colleen

The Knox County Career Center has a wonderful program that allows high school seniors that are interested in education to come into the classroom and experience working with students. Our classroom was blessed to have a former student of mine, Colleen Ricard. Two days a week, for a month, Miss Colleen was able to be an extra hand and support to the students in room 22.

Miss Colleen worked one-on-one with students, she drilled multiplication facts, read with reading groups, and observed social studies presentations. She checked in homework, morning work and was able to read aloud to our class on two occasions. Miss Colleen also shared with us a really fun game to get to know others!

We want to wish Miss Colleen the best in all of her future endeavors. We appreciate her being in our classroom. She will be missed!

The Blob Game

In gym we played a game called The Blob. It was fun. This is how you play.  How you play is that you have two taggers and when you get tagged you link arms with the person who tagged you. When someone is the last un-linked you start over. The rules are if someone says they tagged you they tagged you. You win if you are the last person untagged.

I choose to write about the blob game because I thought it was a good game. It has good cardiovascular exercise. Cardiovascular exercise is what we are working on in gym. I think anyone can play it. Personally I love that game.
