Gym

My favorite thing to do is gym. What I like to do in gym is dodge ball, but I don’t like getting hit in the face or hitting people in the face either. When I play dodge ball I always stay back so I don’t get hit. Then when most of my team is gone, I grab a ball and start throwing them. I also like playing soccer too. When I start playing, I try not to get the soccer ball out of bounds so I pass the ball to my team instead of kicking the ball out of bounds.

My other most favorite thing to do in gym is Great Wall of China. I sometimes walk across when no one is looking. Also in Great Wall of China when I get tagged, I build a wall so no one could get through us. I like playing Great Wall of China because I can sometimes get through the people really easy.

Miami Tribe

There are six different tribes and they are the Wyandot, Miami, Mingo, Ottawa, Shawnee, and the Delaware Indians. I am studying the Miami tribe. The Miami Indians tattooed their bodies. The Miami Indian houses were wigwams. The Miami Indians also grew white corn from Mexico. The Miami Indians are related to the Delaware, Ottawa, and the Shawnee Indians. The men that were in the war were very brave warriors. The Miami Indians were the second tribe to enter Ohio. The Miami Indians lived mainly in Pickawilliny. Women were known as great farmers. Their fruit orchards ran for miles along the river valleys. Little Turtle was a great leader of the Miami Indians. The Miami Indians tribe is a fun tribe to learn about.

Gym and Dodge Ball

My favorite subject is gym. Our class played dodge ball this week. The rules are: don’t be a poor sport, everyone is a winner, and when you throw the ball it has to be shoulder or below.  It was awesome even though we didn’t do girls vs. boys, but we all were still having lots of fun. It was fun when you got out somebody and caught a ball.

Our class has been learning about cardio and an interesting fact is that if you do more cardio you have more energy. When you exercise you get a better night of sleep.

Camp Read-A-Lot

The campout was so much fun! We started with Mrs. Hess doing trust falls, the rope, and the human knot. Then with Ms. Reyes, we did a game called Circle the Nine-Pin, and other fun games.  We had planned on going to the observatory, but the night was too cloudy and rainy to see any stars.
Mrs. Nagy told a scary story. Lots of people thought it wasn’t scary, but different people had different opinions.  We then went through the school on an nighttime tour. After that, we watched The City of Ember, and made s’mores.
In the morning, we woke up to music. We had a breakfast of mini boxed cereals with milk. It was a really good campout!

Earthquakes and Volcanoes

I really liked the time when we exploded our VOLCANOES. when we  did it I saw  that  white  bubbly  stuff  popped out of the volcanoes . I did not know that vinegar could make the baking soda explode. My favorite part about making volcanoes was when we put wet strips of news paper on our volcanoes. Our volcanoes were so fun making them and exploding them and I hope we can do it again.

I all so liked the time when we made EARTHQUAKES .I learned three very important things about the earth called Focus, Epicenter, and Fault. The Focus is the center of the earthquake, the Epicenter is straight above the Focus and the Fault is the where a crack is in the earth. I hope I can make a earth some time. I all so hope that Ohio never has an Earthquake or a Volcano.

Weathering and Erosion

There are three types of erosion: wind, ice, and water. Water takes sediment downstream. It drops off at the end making a delta. Waves erode our beaches.  We can try to put a jetty in the middle of the ocean to stop the waves but it won’t work. It only helps a little. A house by the water can wash away because of the big waves you would not want to live by a beach. Also there are two types of weathering: physical and chemical.   Chemical weathering creates new forms of rock into different materials. Physical weathering only the size of the rock is changed.  Weathering changes a lot of things. A delta is formed by weathering. Water, ice, gravity, and wind is worked by weathered rock it is called erosion. In colder parts of Earth moving ice erodes landforms. Earth’s landforms are constantly changing.

Gym

I love gym! It is fun when we play kickball. My favorite game in gym is soccer. We are playing lacrosse next week. Gym is a really active place. Great Wall of China is my favorite warm up game. This is how you play. There is somebody in the middle of the floor trying to tag you. If you go out of the playing space you are a tagger to. Try not to get tagged.  Everyone else is on the wall trying to get through the taggers. You have to be fast to get through the taggers.

We should all exercise, so we are healthy. We should all eat nutritious foods. If you are active, you are healthy.  Always be active and healthy! I love gym!

Art

I’m having lots of fun in art the past two weeks.  We’re drawing castles! I’m making mine big and tall. It`s going to be great. Everybody’s castles are looking really good too.  Our art teacher Mr. Lane is fun… that`s what makes art so fun.  Mr. Lane is teaching us all about different parts of the castles.  Some of the castle parts are: arrow lope and a keep. There are all different types of castles in the world.

Art is one of my favorite subjects.  I like to draw, a lot. Mr. Lane said I am ready to draw my final draft. It`s going to be bigger and better. There’s going to be more excitement and pop too. The most fun thing about drawing our castles is the different details that we’re putting on our castles.

Music!

This week in music was very fun. Ms. Reyes was very nice and does a good job at pretending to be a rapper and robot. We played a fun game and we had to say our name in a weird way. We were all laughing so much we could not speak. We had a lot of fun.

I said my name like this: Makkkkeeennnzzzzzzzzzzzzie in a weird way. There were four other people in my group Kallista, Kate, Lelia and Marley. Some of them were afraid to do their name. Kallista said her name like an opera person. Lelia said her name like a baby. Kate said hers like a robot. Marley said hers like a rapper. It was so much fun. Thank you, Ms. Reyes!

A New School Year 2012-2013!

Hello Everyone!

This blog was designed for my students last school year and the experience continues with a new team of learners! Students will be allowed to share/write about what they are doing during the week, whether it's what they read during independent reading, sharing an interesting science experiment, explaining a new game in gym or what they enjoyed about an assembly. I'd like this blog to be another step in their journey of being 21st century learners. I hope that readers come back often to find out what is going on in our school and our fourth grade community! We're going to have a great school year!

Eric Carle and my Brother

This week I visited my brother before he moved to teach in Canada! He has lived in Massachusetts for many years and it was fun to see him before he moved to another country! While I was in Amherst, Massachusetts, I visited the Eric Carle Museum. Do you know who that is? He wrote/created the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and illustrated the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? among many others!

The museum showcased Eric Carle's art but also showcased artwork from famous author/illustrator Ezra Jack Keats. He wrote The Snowy Day.

Like any museum, you are not allowed to take pictures of the artwork in the galleries, so I took pictures of the museum. It was a fun place to visit!

The museum had an art studio for guests to make art like Eric Carle!
