Show What You Know and Testing

We have worked hard learning new things in reading and math. During the past few weeks we have been reviewing for the OAA's. They are big tests that we take in third, fourth and fifth grade.
During our review time, it's called SHow What You Know. When we were doing show what you know it was fun you got candy if she said our name wrong. Some of our names were Jammin'  Jordan, Brilliant Bryn, Luminous Lexi and Marvelous Macie. We get little books that have our reading and math review in it. Who everworks the hardest wins the trip to the bowling alley.

The OAA's were hard. Some people got to go to different people for the OAA's and some people took their tests in the classroom. After the OAA's we got to watch a movie to relax. It was called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.  It was so much fun.

The Hunger Games

Right now I am reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It is about the future where twelve districts struggle to survive because the Capitol has all the money and won’t give the districts any money to show their power. Every year the Capitol puts on a show called The Hunger Games where one boy and one girl from each district are forced to go into an arena and fight to the death with the other tributes.
The main character, Katniss Everdeen, has a sister, Primrose Everdeen, that gets picked to go into the Hunger Games and probably get killed, but before she goes, Katniss volunteers as tribute instead of her sister. Katniss ends up winning The Hunger Games but gets herself in trouble in the next book in the series, Catching Fire.

There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom

Recently I read, There’s  a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar. It is about a kid who tells a lot of lies. His name is Bradley. He picks a fight with girls…that’s crazy! His teachers say he is really mean and has behavior problems. He only has one friend and it is a girl. Her name is Carla and she is the school counselor. She is the only person that makes him not mean.

In the book Bradley is the school bully. In the book Bradley gets stuck in the girls’ bathroom. Carla thinks she can help him. I like the book because it is the funniest book I ever read. I think the book is the best. I think all of the characters are funny. I hope you guys will like this book.

Fitness Testing

In gym, we have been doing fitness testing. Fitness testing is when you run back and forth in the gym, you do push-ups and sit-ups and a flexibility test. I won the most points for the girls and Sam won the most points for the boys.

Fitness testing is my favorite in gym, but it's also the hardest thing. We do one fitness text every year and we do practices too. Your partner keeps track of your score and then you keep track of theirs.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is fun for people who are creative and like to be with friends. This year, I had a D. I. team. We were to choose a challenge: either to build something (there were certain things you would have to build, such as a structure to hold as many golf balls as possible) or to perform a skit (also having to follow some rules, depending on what challenge your team decides on). We chose to do a performance, and it was supposed to be a movie trailer. We had to make our own costumes, story, characters, backdrop (s), and soundtrack. Our story was about a girl who lived in England and was going to Ireland for boarding school. She wears the color only made for royalty, which is purple, by mistake to Ireland. When she gets there, she is thrown in jail with a slave who stood up for her. Together, they break out of jail, but just before they can escape, some mean jailers find them. They start chasing the girls, and after a while, the Irish girl slams into a wall by accident. The preview ends with the girls thinking they are caught.

At the tournament, we had an instant challenge and a central challenge. We did the Central challenge first, which was the preview/skit and then we did the instant challenge. The instant challenge was when the judges give us some type of building or drama project, without us knowing what it was beforehand. I’m not allowed to tell what the instant challenge was until DI stops after the global tournament, but I can tell you that Ms. Frackman was our judge. We won second place in the instant challenge and I think we won fourth place in the central challenge. If you like to use your imagination, you’ll love DI.

Iditaread

In reading we are doing the Iditaread. In Alaska there are mushers. They are in a race for the Iditarod contest. Along time ago a lot of people were sick in Nome so they had to sled 1,112 miles with sled dogs. So now we are trying to read 1,112 pages for the Iditaread. Each page is one mile. There are a lot of towns to go through in the contest.
In each contest in Alaska you have to let you have to let your dogs rest for 24 hours somewhere on the trail. When you’re at White Mountain at the end of the race you have to let your dogs rest for eight hours. We have until March 21st to read all of the pages. Along the check points we get prizes and so do they! My mushers are Pat Moon and Josh Cadzow.
